President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met with Charles Michel, President of the Council of Europe on, during Michel's visit to New York. The discussions centered on the expansion of multilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, with a focus on political, trade-economic, investment, and humanitarian collaboration, presidential press service reported on September 19.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current high level of bilateral relations. They highlighted the successful visit of the European Council President to Uzbekistan, as well as the productive summits in the "EU-Central Asia" format and the international conference on interdependence. Notably, trade volume between Uzbekistan and EU countries increased by 35% in the year. The two sides are actively engaged in major investment projects with leading European companies and organizing significant cultural events.
The meeting also addressed the swift adoption of the Extended Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the creation of favorable conditions for boosting mutual trade and investments, and the deepening of cooperation across key economic sectors. The leaders emphasized the importance of adopting long-term bilateral agreements to further solidify their partnership.
Charles Michel praised President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's role in advancing regional cooperation in Central Asia, fostering trust, good neighborliness, and partnership relations. Additionally, they discussed the development of effective international transport corridors, particularly the Trans-Caspian multimodal route.
The situation in Afghanistan was a key topic of conversation, including efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people. Both leaders reviewed plans for future multilateral activities to strengthen cooperation and partnership.
Earlier Daryo reported that the Uzbek-American Business Forum held in Washington served as a platform for demonstrating increasing economic connections, showcasing reform efforts, and promoting cooperation, resulting in the signing of 12 significant agreements.
