Pakistan's interim government, led by Acting Prime Minister Anwar ul-Haq Kakar, has announced a crackdown on Afghan illegal immigrants, citing national security concerns. The government's new policy aims to deport all Afghan citizens lacking proper documentation to confirm their legal stay in Pakistan, Sputnik Afghanistan reported.
As part of this initiative, efforts are underway to identify individuals who have crossed the border into Pakistan illegally or obtained fraudulent documents to stay in the country. Going forward, Pakistan will not permit Afghans without valid visas to remain within its borders.
Recent reports indicate that mass detentions of Afghan nationals are occurring as a result of this policy. Unofficial figures suggest that approximately 200 individuals have been apprehended in Islamabad, while nearly 700 more have been detained in Karachi. It's worth noting that some detainees are believed to possess the necessary documents but may be subjected to extortion attempts.
The move underscores Pakistan's heightened focus on border security and immigration controls, driven by concerns about national security and the need to address undocumented individuals within its borders.
