The Uzbekistan national esports team has progressed to the semi-finals of the IESF World Esports Championship 2023 in the video game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). This global tournament is currently taking place in Iași, Romania, running from August 25 to September 9, featuring 24 international teams and boasting a prize pool of $100,000.
Uzbekistan secured their place in the world championship following their victory in the Asia and Oceania championship. Throughout the World Championship's group stage, the Uzbekistani team maintained an unblemished record, triumphing over Tunisia (16:3), Denmark (16:7), Ukraine (16:11), Colombia (16:7), and Saudi Arabia (16:3), according to the Esports Association.
In the quarter-finals, Uzbekistan emerged victorious over Hungary, winning 2:1 over three matches. They excelled on the de_anubis (16:13) and de_mirage (16:7) maps but suffered a setback on de_inferno (9:16). Notably, Daniel Lee (icyvl0ne) delivered standout performances.
According to Euronews, in the semi-finals, the Uzbekistan national team will face the victor of the Germany/Denmark clash, scheduled for September 2.
