In an interview with Bekhruzbek Ochilov of Alkes Research, this type of economic diversification was highlighted as being a key to Uzbekistan's financial success. A diversified economy is a major contributing factor to many countries' economic strength and sustainability.
Earlier this year, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, assigned the preparation of a $30 bn package to boost foreign investment in the country.
The plan includes directing $12.1 bn towards 1500 projects, accelerating 272 major projects worth $11.5 bn, providing infrastructure for 89 regional projects, and attracting $3 bn for new projects.
An individual "investment manager" will assist each foreign investor, and consulting firms have identified 2,000 promising projects in underdeveloped areas. The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade is tasked with formulating projects worth $30 bn by year's end, aiming to create 27,000 job opportunities and boost the economy.
