Following his hospitalization in Tel Aviv, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed feeling "very good" after doctors determined that dehydration was likely the cause of his condition. The Guardian reports.
Netanyahu released a video statement, acknowledging that he had been in the sun without adequate protection or water, cautioning others against making the same mistake. He expressed gratitude to the medical team and the public for their support and made a plea for people to stay hydrated and take precautions during the scorching summer heat.
Netanyahu, 73, remained at Sheba Hospital, where he underwent further medical tests. According to a joint statement by his office and the hospital, Netanyahu had visited the Sea of Galilee, a popular vacation spot in northern Israel, on Friday, amid a summer heatwave with temperatures in the mid-30s Celsius. On Saturday, he experienced mild dizziness, prompting his doctor to advise him to seek medical attention at Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv.
Preliminary tests yielded normal results, and no abnormalities were found. Dehydration was the initial assessment, and doctors recommended that Netanyahu stay in the hospital for further testing. Netanyahu holds the distinction of being Israel's longest-serving leader, having served multiple terms spanning over 15 years. His current government, formed in December, consists of a coalition of religious and ultranationalist parties.
Although generally in good health, Netanyahu had a brief hospitalization last October after feeling unwell during Yom Kippur prayers, a day of fasting for observant Jews. The Israeli leader faces pressure on various fronts. Yair Lapid, the opposition leader, issued a statement extending well wishes for Netanyahu's full recovery and good health.
