The United Nations Human Rights Council has held an extraordinary session to vote on condemning the burning of the Holy Quran and other sacred books.
The resolution was adopted with 28 countries voting in favor, 12 against, and seven abstaining.
The council strongly rejected the acts of desecration and urged states to hold accountable those responsible for inciting religious hatred.
The council also called on states to review their laws and policies to identify gaps in prosecution for incitement to religious hatred.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and relevant special procedures of the Human Rights Council were also urged to condemn such acts.
Russia supported the resolution but could not vote as it's not a council member.
