Former U.S. President Donald Trump, known for his admiration of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that Putin has been somewhat weakened by a failed mutiny, urging the United States to facilitate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, Reuters reports.
Trump expressed his desire to end the war and suggested that Ukraine may need to concede some territory to achieve peace. He emphasized the need for the right mediator, acknowledging the efforts of Ukrainians to defend their land.
President Joe Biden and NATO allies aim to remove Russian forces from eastern Ukraine, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy proposed a 10-point peace plan calling for Russia's complete withdrawal.
Trump also addressed China, setting a 48-hour deadline for them to dismantle an alleged spy base in Cuba; otherwise, he threatened to impose tariffs on Chinese goods. He refrained from disclosing if the US would militarily support Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, citing negotiation strategies.
