Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Deutsche Welle reports.
This will be the billionaire's first visit to China in four years and will occur in person.
Gates himself wrote on Twitter that he came to Beijing to meet with "partners working on global health and development issues" for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Gates became one of the first Western businessmen to visit China after strict COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced that it will allocate $50mn to support China's efforts in the fight against malaria and tuberculosis.
The Beijing-based Global Health Drug Discovery Institute (GHDDI), a group founded by Bill Gates, the Beijing Municipal Government, and Xinhua University, has announced that the Gates Foundation has renewed its partnership with GHDDI.
Gates will also meet with global health and development partners in Beijing.
"China has made significant progress in reducing poverty and improving health outcomes in the country. I hope that China will be able to play a greater role in solving the current problems, especially the problems that African countries are facing," - said Gates.
The last time Gates and Xi met was in 2015 as part of the Boao Forum of political and business leaders held in Hainan province. At that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced that they exchanged views on "improving the health sector and reducing poverty."
