The White House press report on June 17 shows that US President Joe Biden is not willing to make it easier for Ukraine to join NATO.
"Ukraine must meet the same standards as other members to be a member of NATO," the president said, adding that he would not make the process of joining the alliance easier for Kyiv in particular.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine hopes to get a firm invitation to the alliance at the organisation's July summit in Vilnius on July 11-12. According to the Kyiv regime's leader, the combatants of Ukraine's Armed Forces are frustrated that their country has yet to receive a satisfactory response on the matter.
At the same time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasised the day before that the alliance's leaders did not intend to invite the former Soviet republic to the military alliance at the next summit, but would instead discuss further relations with it.
Dmitry Peskov, Russia's Press Secretary, stated that the Kremlin was aware of Zelensky's proposal as well as the various reactions to it. According to him, Moscow is closely monitoring the situation and recalls that one of the grounds for the launch of the special operation was Kyiv's desire to join the alliance.
