Law enforcement officials in Kazakhstan are increasingly concerned about the high number of traffic accidents involving minors. Aktoty Boranova, Chief Inspector for special assignments of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has reported that although the overall number of accidents has decreased this year, certain regions continue to experience alarmingly high rates.
In the first five months of this year, the Central Asian country registered 1,046 road accidents involving minors, resulting in 72 fatalities and 1,152 injuries. On average, one child dies, and over 10 are injured daily in traffic accidents on Kazakh roads. Of the children who lost their lives, 67% were passengers, while the remaining 33% were pedestrians.
Boranova has emphasized that in most cases, the children were not properly restrained or transported in accordance with transport regulations.
It has been reported that 2,356 citizens died in traffic accidents in neighboring Uzbekistan last year.
The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 9 aims to develop sustainable infrastructure, encourage industrialization, and promote innovation. Countries with diverse industrial sectors and reliable infrastructure have suffered less damage and are now recovering more quickly.
