Cooperation between China and Russia is not directed against third parties and cannot be "stopped or forced" by any third party, Mao Ning, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, informs.
"China has peaceful economic and trade cooperation with Russia and other countries in the world. Our cooperation is based on equality and mutual benefits. We oppose unilateral sanctions not based on international law or mandated by the UN Security Council, as well as long-arm jurisdiction.
The China-Russia cooperation is not directed against any third party, and it will not be stopped or forced by any third party," said Mao Ning.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need to protect the legal rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The Reason for China's Statement
The "Group of Seven" (G7) countries' leaders called on China to exert pressure on Russia to stop its military aggression and withdraw its forces from Ukraine.
Unlike Western countries, China did not impose sanctions on Moscow due to its incursion into Ukraine in February 2022. However, it took action to promote peace and stability.
In late February, Beijing announced its "position on resolving the Ukrainian crisis through political means," which includes a 12-point plan calling for "respecting the sovereignty of all nations," "moving away from a Cold War mentality," and "stopping military actions."
China described its proposed "peace plan" to halt the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, stating that it is not a resolution or declaration but a collection of ideas, some of which were perceived as lacking clarity.
President Vladimir Zelensky of Ukraine and Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently held a phone conversation. Following the discussions, China suggested playing a mediating role between Ukraine and Russia.
