Turkmenistan is invited to join the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), headquartered in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with a charter capital of $7bn.
EDB chief Nikolai Podguzov told reporters on the sidelines of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) conference in Almaty.
"I would very much like to see Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan among the bank's participants. I hope these countries will also eventually join the bank," he said, adding that active negotiations are already underway with Uzbekistan.
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) was established in 2006 through a partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan. Subsequently, Armenia and Tajikistan joined in 2009, followed by Belarus in 2010 and Kyrgyzstan in 2011.
The bulk of the EDB's portfolio comprises projects with integration effects in transport infrastructure, digital systems, green energy, agriculture, industry, and mechanical engineering.
