Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis Almaty is undergoing seismic inspection, Daryo correspondent reports. The city’s Department of Emergency Situations recommends people wait out the hazardous moment in an open area away from power lines, trees, and buildings. After hearing the signal ‘Attention to all!’, the governmental agency notes that Almaty people should not panic but quietly go outside.
In the event of a real earthquake in Almaty, 384 reception points for victims left without a roof over their heads were deployed. As a result, people will be provided with necessities and evacuated to safe areas.
On February 23, 2023, President Tokayev received the Mayor of Almaty, Erbolat Dosayev, and approved measures to ensure the seismic security of the city. On the same day, Vice Minister of Emergency Situations Ibrahim Kulshimbayev said that Almaty is one of the most seismic cities in Kazakhstan. The deputy head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations specified that the city is located on 27 fractures of tectonic plates. In a severe earthquake, up to 30% of residential buildings can be destroyed.
