Uzbekistan was placed 100th in the world ranking of the Legatum Prosperity Index compiled annually by the Legatum Institute. The experts noted the problems related to ecology in the country - according to the indicator, Uzbekistan ranked 162 on the list, with only Sudan, Mauritania, Lesotho, Pakistan, and Iraq placed below it.
Legatum Prosperity Index compares countries according to 12 criteria, such as Safety and Security, Personal Freedom, Governance, Social Capital, Investment Environment, Enterprise Conditions, Infrastructure and Market Access, Economic Quality, Living Conditions, Health, Education, and Natural Environment.
In the updated rating, the weakest aspects of Uzbekistan were personal freedom (147th place) and efficiency of public administration (123rd place).
However, the country's strengths were social capital (46th), health (49th), and security (52nd).
Uzbekistan appeared in this ranking for the first time in 2010 and took 109th place, in 2019 it rose to 102nd place, and in 2020 it rose to 97th place.
