The US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick on Tuesday (January 17) said the United States of America is ready to assist Uzbekistan in modernizing the power grid.
'Let me begin by expressing my deep, deep sympathy to the many people here in Tashkent and around Uzbekistan who are suffering right now in the extreme cold weather and with a lack of heating and power. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on gas and electricity. But I will say that the United States is ready to assist the Government of Uzbekistan in any way we can to help in this crisis. And we do have ongoing programs, more I believe in the area of long-term projects to help Uzbekistan modernize its power grid', Ambassador Jonathan Henick said.
'I've asked some of our experts on these projects to reach out to the government and see if there's any way we can help in the short to medium term. But I think as you probably know, this is not a problem that is going to be solved in a short time', Ambassador concluded.
On the same day, the United States Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick handed over 225 infrared monocular units worth $600,000 to the border troops of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In his remark, the US envoy said that the two countries have been cooperating on border security for more than 20 years.'
'The United States is committed to helping Uzbekistan secure its borders, whether it's against narcotics trafficking, whether it's weapons smuggling or human trafficking. This equipment donation today is merely the latest in a series of many projects and programs on border security', US Ambassador Jonathan Henick emphasized.
