President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on (Wednesday) December 14 reviewed the proposals for the transformation of Uzbekistan Airways joint-stock company, the press service has reported. The president’s resolution of April 30, 2021, defines tasks for the transformation of civil aviation enterprises; the process that envisages the study of international experience involving qualified consultants.
The team of Mehmet İlker Aycı, former Chairman of Turkish Airlines (2015-2022), is to assist the republic in reforming Uzbekistan’s national airway company. His presentation on Wednesday covered the development strategy for the transformation of the national carrier that envisages increasing the aircraft fleet, improving service quality, and expanding the freight network. With the involvement of foreign investors based on world standards, the privatization of the airline will be completed.
The main goal is to turn ‘Uzbekistan airways’ into a leading regional airline, as well as to provide accessible flights to the population on domestic and international routes. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev endorsed the plans and stressed that they should be implemented as soon as possible.
‘We are ten years late in this area. The airline works the old way; passengers are dissatisfied with the quality of service. If we want to develop our economy and tourism, this is our only way’, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
