The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Mashrab Razzokov, the head of the Center for the Study of Road Safety Problems, stressed that 49.3 % of road accidents were caused by poor road infrastructure.
Between January-September of 2022, 6449 road accidents were recorded taking the lives of 1494 people.
The study has revealed that most of the accidents befell occurred because of improper road infrastructure:
- 884 pedestrian crossings are not established;
- 552 lack of bicycle lanes;
- 509 road dividers are not installed;
- 381 roads are not lit;
- 381 lack of fences restricting pedestrian movement;
- 284 roads are not adapted to traffic flow;
- 109 were committed because the road surface was wet or frozen.
Most of the cases involve young people under the age of 16.
