The International Pilgrimage Tourism Week 2022 kicked off in Samarkand on November 1. In his opening remark at the ceremony, Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that specific standards are created to ensure tourism services comply with Muslim hospitality requirements and meet Muslim travelers' demands.
Apart from the halal menu provided in catering and accommodation facilities in the republic, prayer and ablution rooms got set up at international airports, railway stations, and hotels. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Samarkand airport, along with the new tourist complex in the city, is to become the new touristic destination of New Uzbekistan.
The ceremony also discussed the importance of expanding transport logistics. The week of pilgrimage tourism in one of the oldest cities of Central Asia is set to conclude on November 3, 2022.
