The 2022 Judo World Championships, hosted by the city of Tashkent, kicked off on October 6.
Two wrestlers from Uzbekistan took part in the first day's competitions. Dilshod Baratov (-60 kg) qualified for the men's competition, while Halima Kurbanova (-48 kg) participated in the women's section.
Kurbanova defeated Turkey's Merve Azak in the first round but lost to Italy's Assunta Scutto in the next.
Baratov won over Muhammad Akkash (IJF), Artyom Lesyuk (Ukraine), Lee Ha Rim (South Korea) and Yam Volshak (Israel) and reached the semi-finals.
However, the Uzbek sportsman lost to Ariunbold Enkhtaivan from Mongolia and to Yeldos Smetov from Kazakhstan in the bronze medal match.
Today, wrestlers in the -66 kg and women's -52 kg weight categories will continue the competition.
Sardor Nurillayev, Diyora Keldiyorova and Sita Qadamboyeva will be representing Uzbekistan.
The tournament will last until October 14.
