President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, addressing an Arab-Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia, urged global leaders to expedite efforts for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The summit gathered heads of state and government representatives from major nations across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and Africa, with Saudi Arabia hosting the event.
Focusing on escalating tensions in Gaza and Lebanon, leaders at the summit, chaired by Saudi Arabia, discussed the urgent need for a political resolution to the crises through unified international action.
"Despite the resolute efforts and urges of the international community, flagrant violation of international norms and resolutions continues to this day. We are all dismayed by the fact that now the flames of war encompass Lebanon as well," Mirziyoyev voiced.
President Mirziyoyev extended his gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for organizing the summit, which tackled the critical Palestinian issue—a subject of growing concern on the global stage.
Expressing regret over the expansion of hostilities since the last summit in Riyadh in 2023, which now includes parts of Lebanon, President Mirziyoyev voiced unwavering support for initiatives focused on diplomatic solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The summit stressed the need for immediate cessation of hostilities, the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors, and renewed peace negotiations, calling on the United Nations and Security Council to maintain close oversight.
"One cannot watch without broken heart how social infrastructure facilities, schools, hospitals, mosques and even entire cities are turning into ruins, leaving millions of civilians homeless and doomed to hunger and disease. Worst of all, as we all can see, this tragedy on the international arena is being approached through double standards," head of the state stated.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted Uzbekistan's support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the 1967 borders. This stance aligns with the goals of the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution, an initiative led by Saudi Arabia. In his speech, he endorsed efforts to expand humanitarian aid for Palestine and Lebanon, encouraging the involvement of leading countries and international agencies, including UN humanitarian organizations.
"We [Uzbekistan] support increasing the necessary assistance to the activities of UNRWA and other United Nations institutions, which have great experience," President Mirziyoyev stated.
Demonstrating Uzbekistan's solidarity, the President announced Uzbekistan’s willingness to provide medical care for Palestinian children and women affected by the conflict. Additionally, he proposed further discussions on practical assistance for the Palestinian people at the upcoming “Gulf Arab States - Central Asia” summit scheduled in Samarkand next year.
"We [ Uzbekistan] express our readiness to provide free medical care to war-affected Palestinian children and women in Uzbekistan's hospitals," president affirmed.
Highlighting the cultural significance of Jerusalem, President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of preserving historic and religious sites, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
As the summit concluded, the participating nations adopted a joint resolution reiterating their commitment to urgently pursue a diplomatic solution to the conflict, with hope that this collective effort will lead to lasting peace in the Middle East.
