Two films produced in Kazakhstan have recently been released in French film distribution with great reception. The movies, directed by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, were even included in the program of one of France's oldest film festivals, Festival La Rochelle Cinéma (Fema), where Yerzhanov's works were showcased in a retrospective exhibition.
The Paris premiere of "Ademoka" was so popular that it could not accommodate everyone, demonstrating the film's strong appeal. Yerzhanov's experimental style of filmmaking has earned him a special relationship with French audiences, with the hope that his films can reach a wider audience.
Destiny Films spokesman Hervé Miyet expressed his regret that Adilkhan Yerzhanov has not yet received the recognition he deserves, despite his success at Cannes and Venice Film Festivals. The distributor is working to familiarize a larger audience with Yerzhanov's work, particularly regarding "Ademoka," a literary tale about an illegal migrant's quest for knowledge. This film is suitable for all ages, featuring music, unexpected twists, and comedy.
Additionally, "Sturm," a sharp-social arthouse film about the capture of a village school, was released in France on July 12 and awarded a double prize at the Reims International Police Film Festival.
Adilkhan Yerzhanov is thrilled that his films are being shown to a wider audience in Kazakhstan and abroad. He hopes his films will continue to be showcased worldwide, including the French distributor's simultaneous release of Yerzhanov's films with blockbuster releases, to feature not only commercial films but also author's cinema.
